Hypervisor Partitioning

VirtualizationLayout
KVM
  • / 80GB+ as a standard ext4/ext3 primary partition.
  • SWAP 4GB+ as virtual servers may use this if a memory shortage occurs.
  • Logical Volume Group (LVM) remaining space (Logical Volume Group Only, SolusVM will create the logical volumes for the virtual servers inside this group). We suggest a PE size of 32MB or above.
Xen Source
  • / 80GB+ as a standard ext4/ext3 primary partition.
  • SWAP 4GB max as virtual servers will not use the hypervisor swap.
  • Logical Volume Group (LVM) remaining space (Logical Volume Group Only, SolusVM will create the logical volumes for the virtual servers inside this group). We suggest a PE size of 32MB or above.
OpenVZ
  • / 40GB+ as a standard ext4/ext3 primary partition. Templates may be stored in /vz/template/cache on this partition if you don't create a dedicated /vz partition.
  • SWAP 2 times RAM (if RAM ⇐2GB otherwise RAM + 2GB is plenty).
  • /vz remaining space for templates & virtual servers.
OpenVZ 7
  • Using Virtuozzo Linux
  • / 40GB+ as a standard ext4 primary partition. Templates may be stored in /vz/template/cache on this partition if you don't create a dedicated /vz partition.
  • SWAP 2 times RAM (if RAM ⇐2GB otherwise RAM + 2GB is plenty).
  • /vz remaining space for templates & virtual servers.
