Compute Resource Maintenance Mode¶
Maintenance mode in SolusVM 2 allows you to temporarily restrict specific operations on a Compute Resource without disrupting ongoing processes. This is useful for performing updates, diagnostics, or other maintenance activities.
Enabling Maintenance Mode¶
- Navigate to the Compute Resources page in the administrator panel.
- Locate the desired Compute Resource.
- Toggle the Under Maintenance switch to activate maintenance mode.
Note: Activating maintenance mode does not interrupt existing operations or running virtual servers on the Compute Resource. However, it imposes restrictions on certain actions from the client’s administration panel.
Restricted Operations in Maintenance Mode¶
When a Compute Resource is in maintenance mode, the following client-facing operations are restricted:
1.Server Control Operations
- Start
- Stop
- Power Off
- Restart
- Open VNC Dialog
2.Server Management
- Create servers hosted on the Compute Resource
- Delete servers hosted on the Compute Resource
- Resize servers hosted on the Compute Resource
3.Server Settings
- Modify the server name, description, or general settings
4.Disk Management
- Resize disks
- Add new disks
- Delete existing disks
- Edit additional disk settings
5.Networking
- Modify network-related settings
6.Root Password and Boot Mode
- Reset the root password
- Change the boot mode
Permissions and Exceptions¶
Default Restrictions¶
- For all users (without specific permissions), buttons and pages related to restricted operations are hidden or disabled in the client’s administration panel.
Special Permissions¶
- Users with the ACCESS_CR_IN_MAINTENANCE_MODE permission can bypass these restrictions and perform the above operations even while the Compute Resource is under maintenance.
- By default, this permission is assigned to users with the Admin role.
Administrator Panel Operations¶
- Administrators with the appropriate permission can manage and execute restricted operations directly from the SolusVM 2 administrator panel, ensuring centralized control and security.
